On the 17/18th August 2003, the station members were given training for the operation of the new Isuzu Type 2 Rescue Pumper before it became operational on the 18th August.
After the members were familiarised with the layout and operation of the cabin controls, it was time to get down to the basic function of the appliance, "getting the wet stuff onto the red stuff". Each member was required to engage and operate the pump in all it's modes, the on board foam tanks being a new concept on the old Inter appliance, as is the pressure control engine governer.
Then it was time to hit the road and see just how this appliance performed on the tar. All agreed that the driving techniques are very much different to those of the Inter and will need some time to get used too, all the creature comforts of power steering, fully adjustable driver's seat and air conditioning much appreciated. Down the backend, the lack of having to manually re-wind the High Pressure Attack Line is also a bonus.
