As the fire was burning in RFS area, called for their response and set up for property protection for when fire front moved past. RFS would continue to monitor and call if further assistance was required.
01/01/2003 0449Hrs. Called to grass fire at Corlette, on arrival found fire was a backburn put in place by RFS and no further action was required.
01/01/2003 0731Hrs. Called to Mambo Wetland fire for property protection at Salamander Bay, setup hoselines and protected property as requested when fire front approached. Re-positioned Composite as directed for further protection, supported at times by the Pumper, until units no longer required at approximatly 1350Hrs.
01/01/2003 0959Hrs. Pumper was responded to a snake in Telstra pit at Salamander Bay. On arrival they found the snake escaping to safety inside the cable duct and could not be recovered.
01/01/2003 1356Hrs. While returning from Mambo Wetland fire, both the Pumper and Composite were responded to a house fire at Nelson Bay. On arrival smoke was issueing from a weatherboard residence, firefighters wearing Breathing Apparatus entered the underneath laundry and extinguished the fire with a line of 38mm hose. Fire damage was mainly confined to the laundry, the rest of the residence was filled with smoke.
02/01/2003 1452Hrs. Called to Grass fire at Salamander Bay, found a re-ignition of previous scrub fire. Smouldering fire was extinuished.
03/01/2003 1157Hrs. Called to Bush Fire at Salamander Bay, found a small pocket of burnt trees still smouldering from previous fire. Stumps extinguished.
03/01/2003 1631Hrs. Snake in Yard. On arrival found snake was actually in a bird aviary and had two distinctive bulges. Two breeding parrots were also missing from their breeding box. A very satisfied Diamond Python was captured and re-located.
03/01/2003 1710Hrs. Pumper responded to Smoke in Vicinity at Corlette. On arrival found a log still smouldering from previous bush fire and was extinguished with high pressure hose reel.
03/01/2003 1710Hrs. Composite responded to Snake in Yard at Lemon Tree Passage. Hiding inside an enclosed garden bench was a not so happy 1.5m Black snake which was captured and released at a safe location.
04/01/2003 1712Hrs. Pumper responded to a call in Nelson Bay to a person trapped in lift. Ambulance was in attendance and requested the release of occupant which was done without any problems.
04/01/2003 1917Hrs. Police requested Pumper to provide scene lighting at Tomaree Head where a skeleton had been found. It was decided to postpone the recovery until the following day.

08/01/2003 0214Hrs. Called to Driveway Alight Nelson Bay. On arrival found Utility parked on timber deck well alight. Extinguished with High pressure hose reel and a line of 38mm hose. A foam cover was applied to cover ground under the deck after the 'plastic' fuel tank ruptured and allowed burning fuel to engulf the timber deck.
12/01/2003 1748Hrs. Called to a cliff rescue at Shoal Bay after a visiting backpacker had fallen some five metres and severed the tip of one finger, sustained back and leg injuries. Due to high winds, it was not safe to carry out a helicopter winch, so access was gained by foot and the hiker assisted in walking to a beach where he was airlifted to hospital.
