Nelson Bay Fire Station is staffed by eighteen Retained Firefighters. Retained Firefighters are members of the New South Wales Fire Brigade who attend callouts when required, they are paid a monthly retainer and an hourly rate of pay while attending incidents or training. They are on call twenty four hours a day, seven days a week.

At Nelson Bay Station, as well as firefighters being trained in firefighting and Hazmat, members are trained in general and vertical rescue, marine Hazmat operations and even snake handling.

Members of Nelson Bay Station are listed below in order of station seniority with their appointment dates and qualifications. As you can see, some members have many years of service to the local community.
